New York’s Pierre Opens

New York, New York—One of the city’s landmarks reopened on June 1, 2009 after a $100-million renovation. Overlooking Central Park, The Pierre first opened in 1930 on Fifth Avenue and offers 89 luxury guestrooms and 49 suites. The iconic hotel was acquired by Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces to join the hotel group’s 64 hotels in 45 locations. New Luxury Escape Opens

Chelan, Washington—The Lake House at Chelan, a luxury family-friendly resort on Lake Chelan, officially opened to guests on May 1, 2009. Seattle’s Green Hotel

Seattle, Washington—The brand-new 346-room Hyatt at Olive 8 in Seattle is the epitome of a “green” hotel and is, in fact, the first LEED-certified hotel in the city. Architect Richard Gluckman designed this new plan as a prototype for all future Hyatt green hotels. The striking blue glass elements and living green roof are all part of the look and feel of this sophisticated hotel. Sonoran Desert Escape Packages

Vancouver, Canada—The newest star in the city scene is the brand-new Shangri La Hotel, Vancouver, which just opened on January 24, 2009 and is the first North American property for this Asian hotel group. Wyndham Arrives in the City

Chicago Legend Opens Retro Bar

Chicago, IL —Chicago’s legendary Palmer House Hilton in April opened Potter’s, a new bar/lounge named after the Palmer House founder. It’s a new hotspot for the theater and convention crowd. Reviving the glamour of the 1930s, glass-enclosed columns of plush, white feathers greet patrons. The Plaza is Back

New York, NY—A New York legend reopened its doors on March 1 after a $400-million, two-year renovation as The Plaza welcomed guests into the 282 guestrooms, 152 of them converted into luxury condominiums. Averaging $1,000 per night, the rooms available for hotel guests feature 24-karat gold-plated bathroom fixtures, flat screen televisions and decorative touches that reflect the hotel’s traditional Louis XV style. The hotel’s famed Palm Court restaurant now boasts the original colored-glass rose and violet ceiling, covered over since the 1940s and costing more than $2 million to repair. New Orlando Digs
